Description

Unique rug as depicted in photograph, non-repeatable one-off design with the individual irregularities and variety associated with a handmade ethnic rug. Approximately 9'4" x 6'4" blue, honey, linen, brown, duck egg blue on a terracotta orange ground, with birds and flowers. History of Herat style of rugs Herati rugs come from Herat, in western Afghanistan. Herat was historically one of the greatest artistic centers in the Middle East, and it continues to be a thriving center of the arts in the modern world. An Afghan rug from Herat is distinguished by the fine level of workmanship that goes into it, utilizing a very tight weave that fits many knots into a small area. The wefts strands (serving a decorative role rather than the structural role of knotted carpets) are threaded through a number of warp strands and then looped back. All Soumak have geometric pattern with many tribal motifs all around. Usually the motifs are small birds and are excellent with contemporary, traditional and modern decors. The rugs are made by the nomadic or semi-nomadic tribes.
